I came across a very nice tool for similar use. The guys at Panic (Mac software developers) have put together this super slick LCD display. They even go as far as to explain how it was done. Primarily with webkit which is getting a lot of attention lately and is also very cool.

It’s always been a personal anooyance that the Adobe suites cant implement an auto save feature. Finally someone else has put together software to do this system wide. I haven’t tried it yet but plan to soon.
